The Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of Our Lady (Carm. O.L.) has its origin and seat of governance at the diocese of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines. It was founded in 1982 by the first bishop of the diocese, the late Most Reverend Epifanio B. Surban, D.D.
After 42 years, the Congregation has recognized the immediate need for a suitable accomodation for our elderly and our infirm Sisters. With all options and concerns considered, the Governance have decided to renovate the Novitiate and Juniorate Houses to accomade the home for our elderly and our infirm Sisters - the St. Joseph Home and Infirmary.
This project aims to create a safe and nurturing enviornment for both the younger and older members of our Congregation, ensuing their well-being and fostering a sense of community among them while receiving the care and support they require.
The plan is to connect, renovate and add a second story to two of our side-by-side formation buildings at our motherhouse in Dumaguete City in the Philippines.
The ground floor will be designed as an elderly home, offering comfortable and friendly elderly living quarters, common spaces for socialization, dining room and kitchen, a private area for prayer and reflection, a medical/clinic room, and hospice care for the sick and the dying.
The upper floor will provide a vibrant living space for young sisters, including private rooms, communal areas for study and recreation, a chapel for prayer, a library, and counseling rooms.
Below are a handful of photos from the recent project ground breaking and the beginning stages of building and renovating.
